Today I was walking around the clinic and internally moaning and whining about how bad my never-ending sore throat hurts when I noticed a bloated sickly woman sitting in one of the special cancer patient recliners. After that I had a way to remind myself that my sore throat isn't half bad. Not bad at all really. Truth be told, I probably shouldn't have been in proximity to the cancer patients in the first place. It's kind of a desperate situation in the office right now and if I didn't go I think my nearest and dearest coworker would have had a mental health breakdown. After being out sick a day last week, a day of vacation this week, and 2 hours at the doctor this morning I think it would have been the last little thing she needed before she fell into a coma from the stress.

I paid my own visit to the doctor this morning and it turns out I have an irritating virus rather than something like strep which can be cured after a day of antibiotics. He did two strep tests. In order to do a strep test they take an extra-long q-tip and swab the back of your throat and tonsils. In exactly the way that would make you gag. It felt like he had perfected the technique in such a way that it was most irritating and hit the most sore, blistery parts of my throat. I didn't know there was a second swab involved so I used all my non-gag energy for the first swab. I almost sent shredded wheat and soy milk all over the room when he went in there with the second swab.
