May. 7th, 2006 09:02 pmFor the first time in weeks I finally feel relaxed. Not completely at peace due to a feel worries, but relaxed for sure. I find a certain calm in being organized, prepared, and ready. My friends call me a "planner". I used to hate that about myself, but now I just accept that it's my own personal form of OCD and it's not hurting anyone, so it's OK. I've gotten a lot better at just letting things happen too.
I guess the one area where I must exhibit all control is triathlon. There really isn't any room for laziness with triathlon. I know because when I've gotten lazy, I've gotten sick or injured. My two weakest areas are - pushing too much and eating the wrong things. I am much calmer and more prepared when I live alone. I'm sure everyone is this way. When you've got your own fridge you can stock it with what you need to eat. There's no one around to disturb your sleep. I'm glad that I'm starting the season while housesitting because I have the space to get into the right mindset.
Today was a pretty good day. I got a lot done and also managed to get a lot of rest in. I finally had a really good run, it started out good anyway. I went down from the house to this nearby park and did about half an hour on the trails. I was about 20 minutes in when my ankle rolled and my knee gave out and I flew (literally I flew) down the hill and hit the ground. Luckily for me I the path is a newly dumped pile of beauty bark. I am thankful it broke my fall because I hit pretty hard. I'm not enjoying picking the splinters out of my palms and shin. I was OK at first and finished my run, but now I feel a little sore. I suppose that's a sign of age. When I was 15 I would have bounced back up.
This week is the first "true" week of training so we'll see how it goes. There are some challenges involved with this season as I'm just starting a new job. My living situation is sort of unknown right now and I have a erm, bit more weight on me than last season. I'm going to take it slow and not push too much. I'm feeling much more cautious about nutrition now too. I'm packing enough food and picking more protein than I did last time.
Tomorrow is week 3 at my job. Or week 2.5. Hopefully everything comes together from what I did last week.
I have to post some pictures of Mai Tai eating lettuce soon. It's just too weird.
