It is raining in Seattle. I can tell, (since I've been here 22 years) that this is going to be a full-blown dreary Seattle fall and winter. That's the way I like it. I choose to live here, not only because I love so many things about Seattle, but the cold dreary days and nights suit me. I like the fact that the bulk of my wardrobe covers me head-to-toe. I like the excessive coffee consumption, smokey dive bars, and moldy old houses of this city.  Most importantly, I love the mountains, the ocean, the clean cold air, pioneer square, coffee, bikers in the rain, proximity to Vancouver and Portland, and Tegan and Sara.

What I don't like is the people that move here and bitch about it incessantly.  What were you thinking when you moved to the former city of grunge?  Did you think that it wouldn't really be gray every day?  Did you think you wouldn't get SAD?

In order to live in Seattle you must prepare yourself.  You need a cute, high-quality rain coat.  You need several mixes of your favorite music to listen to on long morning bus rides.  You need a nice warm down comforter to shoo out the bone-chill of a wet climate.  You will need patience when dealing with our pathetic, non-existent, mass-transit system.  Please leave behind your wimpy high heeled shoes that worked in LA.  Forget about nice subway systems and sunny fall days.

Please don't complain about my city.  Move somewhere else.  We'd be glad to see you go.
